The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace, established in 1975, boasts a rich history rooted in its founding as part of the esteemed School of Engineering. Located in the vibrant city of Xanthi, the department operates primarily from the expansive University Campus of Kimmeria, with additional laboratory facilities housed in Building XIII in the downtown area, dedicated to hands-on experimental work.

The department originated within a university setting, emphasizing the integration of high-level research with practical technical education. It addresses the evolving needs of society and industry, championing fields such as telecommunications, power systems, microelectronics, and computer engineering. With a faculty comprising 35 renowned professors, the department is a hub for advanced teaching and research, fostering an environment where academic rigor meets real-world application.

The conference will take place at the auditoriums of Building A, which include a large auditorium with a capacity of about 300 people and three smaller auditoriums, each able to accommodate up to 150 attendees. These auditoriums are fully equipped to support a wide range of events, from academic conferences to diverse departmental activities, ensuring a conducive environment for the IEEE CAFE 24 conference.

By Car

If you prefer to drive, Xanthi is well connected by road.

  • From Thessaloniki, drive on the Egnatia Highway (A2), part of the European route E90, which runs near Xanthi. Passing the Nestos bridge, take the East Exit to Xanthi. Continue straight until you reach the east entrance of the city.
  • From Komotini or Alexandroupoli, the route is similar, taking the East Exit on Egnatia Highway directly to Xanthi.  Within Xanthi, navigating to the Kimmeria area is straightforward; at the railroad intersection in the east of the city, a right turn will lead you there.

Driving from Thessaloniki takes about two hours, and from Athens, it takes approximately six hours, offering picturesque views of the Greek countryside.

By Bus

Regular bus routes are available from Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, and Alexandroupoli to Xanthi. The bus station in Xanthi is centrally located, and buses arrive and depart frequently throughout the day. This service offers a flexible schedule suitable for various travel itineraries.
